Princess book

January 30, 2013

Taking a break from birds to go back to our usual topic of pink princesses today....

Juliet received Usborne Illustrated Stories for Girls as a birthday gift earlier this month and has been completely engrossed in it. I've only read a few of the stories to her as it is just the right amount of text and pictures that she is fine reading it on her own!

Sometimes I have found her in her bed with her nose stuck in this book--and realized she was actually reading the words and not just looking at the pictures. She's well on her way to reading all kinds of books on her own. It's so amazing to see this happen right before my eyes. At the beginning of the school year, she was just beginning to learn and now here she is discovering a favorite book on her own.

I love it.

This book is a combination of classic fairy tales and newly written princess stories. I should warn that the fairy tales are the originals (not the cleaned up disney versions), so The Little Mermaid is very sad because in the end, she doesn't marry the prince after all. (Just a warning.)
Although, I've not seen it, I see that the boy version has very good reviews on amazon. Looks like it would be quite mesmerizing to an early reader as well. Has anyone read it?

We are enjoying a rainy day at home today (also, a tornado warning!--not enjoying that part). Hope the weather is treating you better wherever you are today!
