Nutcracker paper doll book

January 4, 2013

Happy New Year, friends! This past week has been a flurry of family visits, birthday parties, and general cleaning up and organizing of the house.

We acquired several fun new books this Christmas and I wanted to share them with you over the next few weeks.

Yesterday, I posted a photo of this book The Nutcracker Ballet: A Book, Theater, and Paper Doll Fold-out Play Set on my facebook page and a lot of people asked about it, so here are all the details!

I first ran across this book when I was scouting out books for my nutcracker books for kids post in December. We checked out all the versions our library had to offer and I was searching amazon to see if there was anything more. This caught my eye and I ordered it for Juliet's Christmas present.

It turned out to be even more fabulous than I had thought it would be!

There are 3 stages that pop out as you open the book and secure it with a strap. It can sit on a table while you dance the dolls across the stages.

All the dolls are marked stage 1, 2, or 3 and they have stands to keep them upright.

There is a book that goes along with it that tells the story and the illustrations are the same as the paper dolls, so kids cans see which pieces go in which part of the ballet.

Of course, you could just play with it however you wished also.

Juliet has been having a lot of fun with this and even did a lot of the punching out with me as we set it all up. The dolls fit easily into a plastic storage box that we have and she can get them out easily to play on her stage whenever little sister is safely away during naptime.

If you remember the victorian dollhouse book we found at goodwill a few years ago, this is very similar. The good news is this one is not out of print and the price is very reasonable. (That dollhouse is hard to find at a decent price!)

If you have a little girl who loves ballet or is going to see the nutcracker next Christmas, this would be a lovely gift. Such a fun way to relive the magic of the show at home!

Did you get any new books over the holidays? I'd love to hear your favorites!
