diy advent calendar countdown

November 30, 2012

Things have been busy around here! Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I've been furiously trying to get everything set up for our advent experience with Truth in the Tinsel

Last year, I tried to wing it every day and found I didn't always have all the materials I needed, so we improvised a bit.

This year, I have already printed out all of the printable ornaments and am ready for it all.

The girls are super excited about starting the countdown to Christmas and I think we will make lots of fun memories together now that Lucia is able to join in the fun this year.

I thought you might like to see our DIY calendar this year. Last year, I used white contact paper to make a Christmas tree with the clues for each day hidden underneath.

This year, I went with red envelopes and put the printable ornaments inside.

I was a little afraid of Lucia pulling this thing down off the wall, but so far it is still intact!

I know I've mentioned it before, but Truth in the Tinsel is such a fun experience. If doing a craft every day is overwhelming to you, there are several options in the book to just do a few and still hit all the basics of the Christmas story.

Also, the printable ornaments make it so easy--you just need to print them out and have a box of crayons or markers handy--nothing fancy! (Unless you like fancy--then you can go all out with them. We'll be using glitter A LOT.)

And if you have a sunday school class or your church would like to incorporate it in their classes, there is a church curriculum option available this year, too.

Lastly, I have to say that you have got to check out the Truth in the Tinsel facebook page. It is the most interactive facebook page I have ever seen. Everyone uploads photos of their ornaments and their kids every day and it is so much fun to see the various interpretations and artistic talents of all these children!

Seriously, even if you don't buy the book or do the ornaments, you will love seeing the photos on the facebook page.

I"ll be sharing more photos of our Christmas fun next week!

Happy weekend!

Very good idea! Good thing your Lucia is so well-behaved. My 3 year old nephew who is at my place all the time would destroy it in less than a day ! I am looking forward to see more of your Christmas photos!
