christmas countdown booklist for kids

November 19, 2012

You've seen the fun tradition of wrapping up 24 Christmas books and letting your kids unwrap one each day until christmas, right?

We have never done this, though I love the thought of it and would surely do it if someone would volunteer to wrap 24 books for me....:)

We store our Christmas books away and get them out just after Thanksgiving. I'm not exactly sure how many we have, but it's a lot. I love that we bring them out once a year and enjoy them all month long.

We also check out some new titles from the library to enjoy for the season as well.

I thought I'd give you a list of ones that would be perfect for the christmas book countdown--in case you need some inspiration! I'll share 10 today for starters....

A Christmas Carol: A BabyLit Colors Primer

This one looks delightful. I love the two books I have in this series and can only imagine that I need this one as well. Maybe Santa will bring it to me...

Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree
This one lives in our Christmas book box...and I am getting excited just thinking about it! It's so delightful.

Christmas Farm
This story of a Christmas tree farm has us very excited about going to get our Christmas tree next week! (We just got this one from the library this week!)

Christmas in the Big Woods (Little House)
I like these "My First Little House" books. Maybe it's because I grew up watching them and reading the books, but there's just something about them that I love. Plus, I have two girls, so any stories about sisters are a hit with us.

Christmas in Noisy Village
My library doesn't have this one, so I might have to buy it. Looks like a beautifully illustrated, old-fashioned Christmas book--which is right up my alley.

Christmas Wombat
I just put this one on request. The cover is too funny to resist. I hope we get a lot of giggles out of it with my girls.

The Nutcracker
This is a huge favorite at our house--not just at Christmas, but all year long. There is something about the illustrations that we particularly love.

The Jolly Christmas Postman
Amy introduced me to Alan Ahlberg and specifically, I have been wanting to find the Jolly Postman for Lucia. It contains letters that are delivered to storybook characters--she's very into interactive books. This one has letters that are to be delivered to the gingerbread man and red riding hood. What fun!

Dream Snow
Eric Carle. Nothing more needs to be said.

A Pirate's Twelve Days of Christmas
I'm always writing about princesses, so here are some pirates for a change. This looks fantastic. :)

That's my first ten picks!

More to come!

Please share your favorites with me--I'd love to read them!
