favorite fairy tales for kids

July 18, 2012

When I saw that Lucy Cousins had a book of fairy tales, I jumped at the chance to check it out from our library.

I have to admit, I was expecting a watered down, toddler-friendly version of the tales, mostly because I am really only familiar with her work on the maisy books. When I say "watered down" I don't mean that I expected it to be bad, I just mean, I didn't expect it to be the original tales.

But as the title suggests--lots of eating goes on in these tales. Pretty much someone or something gets eaten in every story.

And don't get me wrong--it's great and we loved it! But just be prepared for little red riding hood and her granny to get eaten by the wolf (the woodcutter will come and use his trusty ax to chop them out), the first two little pigs will be eaten by the wolf and then the wolf will be boiled alive by the last pig, etc.)

Hooray for fairy tales and for lovely illustrations. I think these are just right for kindergarden and first grade.
