I picked up some fairy books (after getting some recommendations from you all) and here's what we got.
With the flower petals in mind, we fell in love with The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies and really all of Cicely Mary Barker's books on fairies. As we flipped through the book one evening, Juliet looked at me and said, "This is a good book. Maybe we need to buy it from the library." Which of course means, "Buy this book for me, mom!"
I can see her spending hours looking through the pages and learning all the little details about the plant and flower fairies.
We also got Flower Fairies Secret World which is a more condensed version of the larger book above. It was more on Juliet's level as far as the text goes--it reads more like a story where the bigger big is just poems--which she likes, but can be a bit much after you read two or three in a row. When she is reading on her own, I think it will be just right. Thanks to Melissa for tipping us off to these!
I've been meaning to pick this one up for awhile--Laura Ingalls Wilder's Fairy Poems--and am so glad I did. I read all the Little House on the Prairie books, but had no idea that she wrote poetry as well until I saw this on Janelle's blog. I had forgotten about it until Zoe led me back to it via her Fairy book Round up. (Need more fairy book suggestions--look no further! Zoe has such a great collection of reviews!)
I also found this lovely make-your-own-book idea (free printable) on her blog which is on our to-do list this summer.
And lastly, here are a few I havent' read yet, but would like to very soon:
