wizard of oz book for preschoolers

September 20, 2011

I picked up a copy of The Wizard of Oz illustrated by Dennis Hockerman (sorry--I couldn't find an image or link on Amazon!) to read with Juliet last week. (It's an adapted version of the original story by Frank L. Baum.)

I was a little apprehensive about the "scariness factor", but we read through it and she loved it. The illustrations are really preschool friendly, so even the scary parts seem less scary and more adventurous.

Like when she is carried away by the flying monkeys? The illustration makes it look kind of fun, honestly. :)

I did a search and found another one that looks "preschool friendly."

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: A Commemorative Pop-up because pop-up is always good, right?

How pretty is this print? I like it for a nursery or child's room.

And for a craft project, I think this exhibit of poppy field paintings inspired by The Wizard of Oz (done by 2nd graders!) is just awesome. I'd love to do something like this with my girls.

I also came across the amazing work of the artist Sandy Diller--what do you think of this piece?
