books for four year olds: our library loot this week

September 29, 2011

Ideally, I would write a detailed post and share a unique craft for every book I check out from the library, but the reality is that there are not enough hours in a day for that!

So from time to time, the books pile up next to my computer desk and one night I just have to share a bunch of them with you all at once because they are going back to the library tomorrow and I really want you to know about them.

Would You Rather... by John Burningham is not your average bedtime read. It presents several options and asks the reader to choose one. For example, "Would you rather have supper in a castle, breakfast in a balloon, or tea on the river?"

Juliet had so much fun answering each question and telling me her reasons why. I loved how it got us talking and interacting instead of just sitting and listening to the story.

You've probably already read Book! Book! Book! by Deborah Bruss, but it was new to us. We loved it and it definitely made us giggle as the animals try to get the librarian to understand what they are saying. Fun for celebrating libraries.

The Story of Kites by Ying Chang Compestine intrigued us and would be a great companion for spring kite crafts.

And lastly, we're always up for a cat story. Mr. Pusskins: A Love Story by Sam Lloyd made us laugh. You can tell by the cover the sort of cat Mr. Pusskins is--along the lines of Mr. Twitches (Tinkerbell's Fairy Rescue) and Lucifer (from Cinderella). We think grumpy old cats are funny.

What books are you enjoying this week?
