My Beastly Book of Twisted Tales: Review

August 10, 2011

As a kid, I used to love coloring books. I remember spending hours with my 64 count pack of crayola crayons and just coloring the day away.

So far, Juliet has not had much interest in coloring books. Until recently when we received a copy of My Beastly Book of Twisted Tales: 150 Ways to Doodle, Scribble, Color and Draw from Owl Kids.

It's not your typical coloring book in that it doesn't just have an image for you to color in however you want. Instead, it has text that directs you to do something specific.

And the thing that it tells you to do usually makes you giggle. Like this page that says, "Snow White has a bad sunburn. Color her red."

I think sitting for a long period of time just coloring is boring to Juliet, but quickly coloring Snow White red? That is fun. She kept turning the pages and asking me what each of them said.

We went through several while I was cooking dinner the other night.

We love this one because as the title suggests the pages are all variations on fairy tales and other well-known children's stories.

We also have a copy of My Beastly Book of Hilarious Heroes: 150 Ways to Doodle, Scribble, Color and Draw which runs with the superhero theme.

(There's even a page where you get to design your own superhero underwear! Hello, blue with white stars! Did anyone else have the wonder woman Underoos as a kid?)
