why I love old books

Crictor (Reading Rainbow Books)
I picked up a copy of Crictor  at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. I had never heard of it, but isn't the cover so beautiful? And there's a snake having a drink with an old lady--how could we resist?

We took it home, cleaned it off, and then settled into read it before bed one night. Juliet and I were enthralled by the story of the old lady with her pet boa constrictor living the grand life in Paris, France. It had everything we could ask for in a bedtime tale. And then....
Robbers! Knives! Sweet old lady bound and gagged! And everyone's children's book favorite: GUNS!

Good thing that giant boa constrictor was there to save the day.

Just add it to the list of strange things we've found in vintage books. :)

(We really love this book, by the way.)
