what we're reading this week

May 27, 2011

We took a trip to the library yesterday (to return old ones and pick up some new ones). I thought I'd share the ones we really loved.
In a Blue Room
In a Blue Room
An old favorite that never disappoints! I still say this is my favorite bedtime book.
Verdi
Verdi
By the author of Stellaluna--we love all her books. And after recently attending a "reptile party" for a neighborhood friend which featured a real python--Juliet was even more interested in this silly snake.
Butterflies for Kiri
Butterflies for Kiri
There are instructions on how to fold an origami butterfly in the back of this book, but we never got around to it. :(
Basket Of Bangles, A
Basket Of Bangles
Set in Bangladesh, this is the story of a woman who moves from begging for rice to growing her own thanks to the help of a micro loan. There are a lot of good math concepts in this book and it is surprisingly still readable for a 4 year old.
Herbert: The True Story of a Brave Sea Dog
Herbert: The True Story of a Brave Sea Dog
A true story about a dog who survived 30 hours in the ocean after falling overboard during a storm--wow. Juliet was mesmerized by this tale.
When Pigasso Met Mootisse
When Pigasso Met Mootisse
Art lovers will appreciate this one.
The Copy Crocs
The Copy Crocs
We like how this story celebrates individuality and community at the same time.
The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish
The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish
I mentioned this one earlier this week--Ben and I asked Juliet what she would swap her dad for and she thought for a minute before saying, "Um.....maybe a clubhouse?" :)

What would your kids swap their dad for?
