book-inspired nursery art for twins: hot air balloon

May 30, 2011

hot air balloon
My sister-in-law is expecting twin girls in August, so I asked her if I could make some nursery art for her. I asked her for some guidance and she just gave me a color scheme (green and pink) and said she wanted something "vintage-y".
The Travels of Babar
I thought and thought about what I could do for twins and was eventually inspired by this book cover. I've always loved the composition of this cover and thought I could replace Babar and Celeste with two girls.

The girls are fraternal twins, so I chose a brunette and a blonde....but of course, I have no idea what they will actually look like.

When I went to cut the pieces from the scrapbook paper for the balloon, it seemed somewhat plain, so I decided to add some flags like the ones in this lovely box from Mmim.
anchor
I used Mod Podge to adhere all the paper with the exception of the anchor--it just sort of hangs from the basket. I'm hoping it doesn't get ripped off by my nephews...it's quite tempting to just reach out and grab....

I left some white space in the bottom right hand corner for their names--which will only be revealed after they are born. Not sure how I will do that, but I'm liking this washi tape technique.

Harper and Larkin?

Iris and Mabel?

I'm totally guessing. :)

The task of coming up with two names that go together is fascinating and intimidating to me. Have you ever named twins or do you have any favorite twin names?
