easter egg books

March 30, 2011

It's that time of year when all the egg-decorating starts! Here are some Easter egg books we've been reading this year:
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes Gift Edition with Charm
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes  by DuBose Heyward
I have been eying this book for a long time and at long last, Juliet is finally ready to sit still and listen to it! (The text is rather lengthy.) She loved it and I did, too. In fact, I think it is the reason she now tells people that she has 20 children.
The Egg Tree
The Egg Tree by Katherine Milhous
This is another text-heavy book, but good if your child can sit through it. Juliet enjoyed it and it got us excited about decorating eggs together.
Easter Bunny's Amazing Egg Machine (Pictureback(R))
Easter Bunny's Amazing Egg Machine  by Wendy Cheyette, Lewison
This one is shorter and probably more enticing to younger children  (and parents who do not want to read a never-ending book!)
I Need An Easter Egg (Holiday Lift-The-Flap)
I Need An Easter Egg  by Harriet Ziefert
We love Ziefert's lift-the-flap books. This one is about a bunny who is looking for an egg for his grandma. Perfect to read with your grandchildren.
The Legend of the Easter Egg
The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg
This tells the Christian meaning behind the egg tradition and is good if you are looking for a religious-themed book. Just a warning, the little girl in the story gets scarlet fever and her brother wrestles with the fear of her dying....Juliet was fine with it, but I just wanted to share that in case your child is sensitive to things like that.

What are your favorite Easter Egg books?

Thanks for the warning on the last book. There's times my kids do fine with that, and then there's the other times.......

No problem, Ticia--I know, sometimes I just don't feel like having the death discussion.

It was very interesting for me to read that blog. Thanks the author for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I would like to read more soon.

I'm excited the Easter Bunny is bringing "The Golden Egg Book" by Margaret Wise Brown/illustrated by Leonard Weisgard ... story of a bunny who finds an egg and what happens next. The pictures in this 2004 edition are beautiful!

Oh Christina! I love that book--Leonard Weisgard is one of my very favorite illustrators! We have a copy that we love. What a perfect book for an Easter basket!
