two great books for preschoolers

February 4, 2011

We went to the library for the second time since Lucia was born last week and became particularly enchanted with these two books. I wanted to share them with you:
The Incredible Book-Eating Boy
The Incredible Book-Eating Boy by Oliver Jeffers
I may be a little late to the party on this one, but it sure is a good one. I discovered Oliver Jeffers last year when we read Lost and Found and How to Catch a Star (both are incredible.) I searched our library's catalogue to try and find more titles by him and they only had one other one--The Incredible Book Eating Boy.

We've read it about a million times this week and as usual, the story is perfect for both adults and kids and the illustrations are mesmerizing. The best part, though, is the tiny bite mark in the end pages and back cover of the book. Juliet giggled with delight when she saw it!

She thinks the boy really did eat the copy we have--it's so fun to be four years old because the world is still full of magic!
Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs
The second favorite from this week is Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs by Giles Andreae. I don't think I need to explain the pure awesomeness of the combination of pirates + dinosaurs. Juliet has been taking this one to bed with her.

It seems that this is one in a series about pirate dinosaurs--I hope our library has some copies of these: Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs: Missing Treasure!Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs - The Magic Cutlass (Captain Flin & the Pirate Dino)Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs - Smugglers Bay!Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs - Missing Treasure! Activity Book (Captain Flinn/Pirate Dinosaurs)

Has anyone read any of these others?

What library favorites did you pick up this week?

I've been eyeing the book eating boy - our library doesn't have it (yet) but I keep hoping I'll get to check it out soon.

That book eating boy book sure looks like fun...I must see if I can find it. Did you happen to see my Book Buddies post? I made that little penguin (from felt) from Lost and Found :)

Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs is one of our all-time favorites!! It was the same combo of pirates & dinosaurs that made us buy it at Half Price Books a few years back. I had no idea it was part of a series. We'll definitely have to track the others down--thanks so much for sharing!
