I found this old wine rack at Goodwill several months ago and have been keeping it my garage until I could figure out what to do with it.
We recently rearranged the furniture in our downstairs living space by getting rid of an oversized couch and moving a large bookshelf against a wall. The result? A playroom.
I moved a large number of Juliet's books to the aforementioned bookshelf and placed them up high (so as to be out of reach of a soon-to-be-getting-into-everything baby's hands), but wanted a baby-friendly solution for the equally large number of baby board books that I will soon be unpacking and bringing downstairs.

The little light went on in my sleep-deprived brain and voila! Out came the wine rack and in went the books. What do you think? I kind of like it. Lots of little nooks for books and toys. Now I just need to paint it something a little more appealing.
Of course, Lucia won't be sitting, crawling, or handling books for several more months (she's just now 3 months old), so I thought maybe it could be used for another organizational nightmare in our home...

Anyone else have a hard time getting your kid to put her shoes where they belong? I'm hoping this will help with that and also with finding the same shoe for both feet when we need to run out the door quickly.
If it does work, I'll be looking for another old wine rack for the baby books. Goodwill, here I come!

Great idea! I'll have to keep an eye out for one for my girls shoes...but it would have to be bigger to fit all their shoes. :)
I like what you did with the wine rack. Good ideas!
Very cute!
Cute ideas! I love the whimsy effect it has with the shoes. Very playful and fun which is perfect for kiddos!
thanks--I know--I will need another one for Lucia's shoes in a year, too, when we have double the shoes to keep track of!
I wonder if you could figure out a way to hang it on it's side so the cubes are upright... then it would be a PERFECT wall shelf and a super cute one at that. Great idea and thanks for sharing!
I like this idea, especially with the shoes.
I love this idea for both the shoes and the books, I may be snagging this idea in the future too Vanessa:)
Wonderful solution!!! Love the cute little polka dot boots. :) Visiting from The CSI Project today. :)
What a neat idea for storing the board books ... I need something like that for our books in the children's playroom :)
Wonderful idea. I have that exact same rack!
Thanks for stopping by, everyone! I love the idea of turning it on its side Heidi--that would make a very sculptural hanging bookshelf!
The more I look at these pics, the more I wish I had painted it before posting about it! I guess you'll just have to look forward to another post with it's makeover once the weather gets warmer and I can get out there with the spray paint!
LOVE this! At the child's level, interesting angle, AND organized. :)
Super clever! Our shoes never seem to be with their mate!
