how to reuse old maps

November 10, 2010

atlas 1
I recently found this old Australian Atlas at Goodwill. (1987) Since it was so old, I figured it was probably outdated, but would be perfect for crafting projects.

However, Juliet took one look at it and has since claimed it as her own. She loves to sit and "tell me her states."
So, whenever she tires of it, here are some ideas I'm considering:

Drawer liners like these ones from Frugal Decor Mom

map garland like this one from Creative Passage

Do you have any fun ideas to share?

I love these ideas. I hadn't seen them anywhere and I'm always looking at how people incorporate maps into their homes. I have come across books like these, but truthfully have not been able to muster up the courage to cut up a book. I think I need to find one that's in really bad shape.

I'm with you, Minnie--it makes me sad to cut up a book, but the really damaged ones I don't mind so much. :)

These are great ideas! I've used them for book covers for journals. I love the look of old maps!

I'm in love with anything Paris. When I first graduated college and had limited funds for decorating my apartment, I looked around for whatever I could for the walls. I found a colorful map at Barnes and Nobles in the map area of Paris. It's really pretty. I put it in a cheap black frame. I use to look at that map and daydream of going. I still haven't gone, but the daydreams live on.
