Today my friend Emily (and amazing mother of 4 kids) of The Maxwell 6 is sharing her 5 Book picks with us!
My Kids' Favorite Books (For the Moment)
My six year old's most requested book this last month has been Just In Case You Ever Wonder by Max Lucado. It is one of those books that chokes me up every time I read it to my children. It is full of things you always want to say to them and always want them to know. Here is one small snippet:
I'll always love you.
I'll always hug you.
I'll always be on your side.
And I want you to know that...
Just in case you ever wonder.
My six year old son loves this book. We snuggle up together and read it, I always get choked up, and he always reassures me that he'll love me, even when I'm "old" and he's "grown up living his own life." Then I cry some more. ;)
My four year old son has been obsessed with the book, I'm a Big Brother by Joanna Cole for a year now. His baby sister is now eight months old and we've been reading this book to the kids since I was pregnant with her. He absolutely loves to read about the baby and how fun and special it is to be a big brother. And how much fun it is to be big so you can do things like "play with toys and eat pizza and apples and ice cream!" I'm sure his love for this book is due to the fact that he can relate to it right now.
My two year old daughter is loving I Love You Stinky Faceby Lisa McCourt. It is a darling book with fun illustrations. As a mama is tucking her son into bed he starts asking her if she would still love him if he were...A big, scary ape, a skunk named Stinky Face, or an alligator with big sharp teeth, and on and on... Of course his mother reassures him she would love him and she tells him how she would love him in each and every scenario he comes up with. It is a fun and heartwarming book to share with little ones!
My eight month old daughter is into any book that she can crumple the pages or chew on! But I've always loved the "Touch and Feel" books for babies. My older kids even like it when I read those, it is always fun to find out what an elephant feels like!
And my favorite book to read to my kids is I Love You Through and Through by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak. It is definitely for younger children. Here is a snippet:
I love your top side, I love your bottom side.
I love your inside and outside.
I love your happy side, your sad side, your silly side, your mad side.
We like to tickle the different body parts mentioned and express the different emotions the book takes you through. My kids giggle and I like that I get to tell them how much I love them in a different way.
These are our top 5 books, for the moment....
What books are your children currently obsessed with? What is your favorite book to read to them?
Thanks for sharing your picks with us, Emily! I love seeing the different choices of all your children. We are currently loving the Big Sister version of the Joanna Cole book and I Love You Through and Through is one of my very favorite books for babies.
Emily homeschools her children and shares about their adventures on her blog. I love how encouraging and uplifting her posts always are--she shares fun anecdotes about their daily life and she always reminds you that being a mom is hard work, but it's so worth it.
Once I expressed admiration for her because she works so hard taking care of her four kids while I just have one to manage and she said, "My grandma always told me, "Whether you have one kid or seven, they take up all your time." I love that. She turned a compliment intended for her into an encouragement to me! That's just the kind of thing you'll find on her blog, so...
