it's finally fall...

red squirrel
So, I know I have been complaining a bit about the heat, but just yesterday, fall actually showed up! The weather is cooler and it feels like it is almost October.

To celebrate, I wanted to share some images from Squirrels by Brian Wildsmith--one of my favorite illustrators.
I should mention that Juliet will not permit me to read this book to her anymore--but when she was younger, she really enjoyed it. I'm not sure what caused the change, but it's no longer a favorite. I STILL love the illustrations, though.
squirrel nest
Here's a lovely picture of a squirrels nest. Which reminds me of my nest...
fall table
Here are a few fun fall things I pulled out of our "fall box" which Ben was kind enough to dig out of the pile of junk in our garage. Juliet has had fun playing "picnic" with these items all week.
bronze duck
I've got this duck filled with plastic dollar store acorns,
Three mini pumpkins and some little fake dollar store gourds,
fall flowers
Some fake fall-ish looking flowers that Juliet has had fun arranging over and over again in a old plastic spray bottle...
And lastly, this wooden mushroom that we just picked up at Goodwill a few days ago.

How about you? How are you celebrating fall? Any favorite fall books to recommend?

OH, that squirrel book has BEAUTIFUL illustrations! I love that nest. That is amazing. And nice mushroom! Good find.
I have no fall decorations yet. It actually just became warm here so I have no motivation to move into fall yet, lol ;)

Very pretty arrangements. I was debating yesterday in Dollar Tree on whether to buy some of those plastic decorations and decided that we don't need more plastic stuff in house. Now I am tempted to go back. My favorite fall book is definitely Leaf Man by Ehlert.

Love the mushroom! I highly recommend Miss Suzy for another squirrel book. Illustrations aren't as amazing, I'll admit, but it's a great story. I haven't pulled out the autumn decorations yet, but maybe this weekend. :)

Yup, I agree, where is fall?! We've been suffering outrageous temps here in Southern California, 114 degrees on Monday! Not very fall-like. Like you, I've been eager to start bringing out my little touches of autumn. I really adore that little mushroom. I was drawn to it as soon as I saw it and shouldn't have been surprised to see it's from Goodwill!

I've rediscovered my love for art just by being exposed to so many illustrators and artists through my kids' books. These illustrations are beautiful. I love how the masses of swirls take up the whole space.
