Please Do Feed the Bears by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
A little bear is going to the beach with his family. He wants to take along his stuffed bears, but his parents tell him there is no room and IF they did bring them, they'd have to leave something behind.
Little bear decides to empty the cooler and fill it with his stuffed bears instead of lunch. Of course, this makes for a bad situation once they arrive at the beach and have no lunch.
The family decides to go for one last swim before heading home early, but little bear takes matters into his own hands.
He sets out his bears, places an empty plate in front of each, and writes, "Please Do Feed the Bears" on the boardwalk. As people walk by, they fill the plates with food. When his family returns, they discover a feast waiting for them.
Juliet loved the story and I liked how it showed a child solving a problem in a very clever way on his own.
Do you know of any stories that feature good problems-solving skills like this one?
