decorating with children's books: vintage book covers

August 9, 2010

I love using vintage books as decorating inspiration and I especially enjoy using them in kids' rooms. When dreaming up nursery ideas for Lucia, I had several beautiful options to consider, but eventually went with Thumbelina as the overall bookspiration for the room.

I did have some boy options that I wanted to share with you--just because I think they are beautiful and I like sharing my books. The books above are The Beach Before Breakfast by Maxine W. Kumin and Sea Shells. I like the colors if you wanted to go for an ocean theme.

In the Forest is a gorgeous book that I was planning on using if we were having a boy. I love the black and white images and especially the little boy blowing a horn as he leads a parade of animals through the forest. Very whimsical and fun.

I bought this one (Listening for Sounds) to feed Juliet's fire truck obsession, but the cover is perfect for display! I like the orange cover and the vintage illustrations.

Up Goes the Big Top by Bernard Garbutt is perfect for a vintage circus themed room.

I've shared this one before, but I love it so much I had to share it again! Brian Wildsmith is one of my absolute favorite illustrators. I picked up this gem for only 25 cents at a library sale! This owl cover has definitely inspired Lucia's nursery!

Do you have any favorite vintage books that you love to use as display or design inspiration? I'd love to hear your favorites!

Pretty sure I read that Circus book when I was in school. Girl, that thing is old! *) I recommended you to my readers on my blog this week. Hope they stop by!
