I've mentioned before that I have a thing for names. I also have a thing for books (as you know...), so of course these two loves combine to produce a list like this!
I have been keeping this list for about a year now. Whenever I read a good (or fairly decent) book with a little girl's name in it, I list it here. Because I love searching for books with my name and my daughter's name in them, I thought I would share this resource with you. (In case you are interested in finding a book with your child's name in it!)
I think name books make great baby shower gifts. It's always a little challenge I give myself when a friend is having a baby. Sometimes I succeed, and sometimes I just don't.
Sorry to all the mothers of little boys! I don't have a boy's name list yet, but I think I will work on one very soon.
I think this list could also be a fun inspiration for pregnant mothers looking for literary inspiration for their child's name! (I love this cover so much that I thought very seriously about naming this baby Veronica--Ben vetoed it, though.)
Some of these books are FANTASTIC books--others are just okay. The fact that your child's name is in them is the best part.
The list is by no means complete, I will continue to add to it as I find new books with new names in them. Also, I made a note if the main character is not human, but instead an animal.

What about the Lyddie book we found the other day? She was a maid or child slave or something right? *sigh*
No W names? :)
My kids fight over Bible stories with their names. I'm trying to think of some good ones.
Jane and the Dragon is a good story with a girl's name. We just got that from the library recently (thinking of buying it for my Mom named Jane).
No books with boy's names?
Gracie & Grandma and the itsy, bitsy seed by Iben Sandemose. Just did a quick search in the Library catalog and found this book...requested it so we will see if it's any good!
No Juliet books? I came across your blog last week via ohdeedoh and have been a little freaked out ever since. Our 15m old daughter's name is Juliette and our #2 name (and the one we will use if our next child is a girl) is Lucia. I just wanted to say, get out of my head! :)
I love your blog and am now an avid follower. We read about a hundred books a day (J knows that no one ever says no to a book) and love the inspiration and suggestions!
The other day at the library, I spotted Annabel Again by Janice Boland from across the room. My daughter's name is Anabel but its close enough. Its about a pig though...I don't know if girls named Annabel would like having the same name as a pig. My daughter didn't seem to mind. My niece's name is Mya but I got her a book called All by Myself by Ivan Bates, about an elephant named Maya who wants to do everything by herself.
By the way, I will be sure to remember to contribute to your list when I am out looking for books!
My daughters names are Eliana and Sarah-Ann. They often go by Ella and Sarah though. When we found the book Ella Sarah gets dressed several years ago, my girls thought it was the coolest thing. We have a tendency to read Harriet you drive me wild more frequently though, substituting my children's names instead :-)
This is such a cool idea, and list of books! Thanks for putting it together!
My daughter's name is Jaedyn but her middle name is Emma so I could always go with that. :)
Phyllis--I'm working on the boys list--it may take awhile for me to get it posted, though! This list has taken a year to compile so far!!
Nico--That is crazy about our name choices. :) I actually don't have any Juliet books! I am constantly on the search, but the only one I know of is the Shakespeare play and it's a bit tragic for a three-year-old, I think. :) At least she'll have one when she gets older...
Thanks to everyone for sharing your book suggestions! I will be looking for them at the library!
I remember reading your post a year ago about the name books. Thanks for compiling such a useful list. I'll keep an eye out for name books we like for you.
WHAT. A. GREAT. IDEA!!! Unfortunately, however, my kids aren't on the list. I guess they have a little less common names: Lina and Cassa Marie. Ya. Might not find 'em. HEY! I could write/illustrate a book with their names!!!
Thank you!

I am looking for a book with the name Ava for a friend. I have given her other two kids name books - Clara and Asha and Beckett (about a panda). Now I need an Ava. :) Any ideas? Kelly
