Eric Carle Favorites

July 21, 2010

Eric Carle is one of my very, very favorite children's book authors and illustrators. I'm sure you know his Very Hungry Caterpillar, but maybe you haven't seen a few of these other ones. He's written so many books that we have not read them all yet, but here is a good selection of the ones we have and LOVE.

If you didn't know it, Eric Carle also has a blog where he shares background stories of his artwork and his books! I love reading what he has to say about his work. You should check it out if you love his work.

He also has an official Eric Carle website where you can find coloring pages, games, and more.

I love these for babies! I like to give these as shower gifts.

Juliet had this collection as one of her very first book-reading experiences. Ben makes great animal noises, so the Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear  one was a special favorite.

The following are great for toddlers and preschoolers--our library has a great selection, so we almost always pick out one Eric Carle book every time we visit!
The Grouchy Ladybug

So, what is your favorite Eric Carle book?

I'm linking up to Feed Me Books Friday @ Little Sprouts Books this week!

I haven't seen Dream Snow before.

I saw a copy of the Click Beetle at Half Price, they were asking $8 for it and the beetle no longer clicked. It was so wrong.

Oh isn't Eric Carle the best! We adore him in our household. We have many of the one you listed, but there are a few I'll need to be sure to check out.
Here are a couple of past posts relating to Eric Carle that you or your readers might enjoy.

Enjoy your day!

ps I need to email you about posting for the fall when baby comes. I've been busy, but am interested. :)

We've read and enjoyed many Eric Carle books. Right now my almost-2-year-old adores Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See.

Oh my..I just LOVE Eric Carle. I have slowly-slowly been collecting titles and am hoping to do lots of "Eric Carle" posts. We recently made a very sweet cloud puppet based on "Little Cloud".

My favourite so far is "The Tiny Seed" and I will be posting about this book and a craft very soon! I am also partial to "Slowly Slowly Slowly, said the Sloth" - the artwork is just amazing!!

I am so glad that you put together this list. It is Little One's birthday in two weeks time (will be 2) and I have been unsure of which titles to buy. Thank you!

Take care,

I love Eric Carle, and you're right - there are so many to enjoy! I didn't know about the website - thanks!

Hopping around to comment on all the Feed Me Books Friday links - glad you added yours! Thought of an Eric Carle book that's not on your list that we love: Animal Homes. The pages are divided horizontally across the center (one flap on top, one flap on the bottom) and you get to match the animal to the home. Makes a fun game!

He is a master of books! Children as well as parents like to read his books. "Papa Get the Moon For Me" is our favorite! Love the way the pages open up. Very dramatic for children.
Thanks for the post.
