more father's day books for kids

June 7, 2010

I checked our library for more daddy-themed books and found a few more good ones that I thought I would pass along to you.

Papa, Do You Love Me?
Papa, Do You Love Me? by Barbara M. Joosse

This beautiful book was especially appealing to us because it is set in Kenya. Ben has traveled to Kenya several times in the past few years and we now have many Kenyan friends with whom we keep in touch. We also sponsor a child from Kenya with Compassion International. Juliet enjoyed reading a story about this country that she has heard so much about.

The Very Best Daddy of All
The Very Best Daddy of All by Marion Dane Bauer

A book about all different kinds of daddies from birds, to fish, to gophers, to humans. Cute and fun--especially for toddlers.

Daddy's Lullaby
Daddy's Lullaby by Tony Bradman

A sweet story of a dad coming home from work after his family is asleep. He is on his way to bed, but stops to comfort the crying baby. The two fall asleep on the couch together where mom and big brother discover them the next morning.

I Love My Daddy Because ...
I Love My Daddy Because... by Laurel Porter Gaylord

More animal daddies and how they take care of their young. The last page shows a little girl with her daddy. Another good one for toddlers.

Day Out With Daddy
Day out with Daddy by Stephen Cook

This is a funny story about a day spent in the care of dad. Mom went out of town and dad does things a little bit differently. Lots of jumping on the bed, eating junk food, and playing in the mud!
Daddy Island by Philip Wells

This is a fun story about a little boy's imaginary adventures as he plays on "daddy island" which is his daddy laying on the ground. The illustrations are engaging and Juliet really enjoyed this one.

I Love My Daddy
I Love My Daddy by Sebastien Braun

The tale of a father bear and a baby bear--this is a beautifully illustrated story of the love between a father and his cub. Probably my favorite of the bunch.
