Oliver
by Syd Hoff
I love finding books with kid's names in them. Whenever my friends get pregnant (and they are the "name-announcing" type), I start looking for a book that has their child's name as the main character in the book.
It's not always easy to find, but I try! Recently, my friend Ruth had a baby boy named Oliver. I was so excited when I discovered this book by Syd Hoff at a thrift shop! Juliet and I love Syd Hoff, but had never read this one.
We took it home and fell in love with it. We kept the thrift store copy for ourselves and ordered baby Oliver one of his own. We were able to find a nice vintage copy in great condition. (The vintage version's cover is a little bit nicer, in my opinion.)
We also threw in another favorite Ollie
Do you have any good books with your children's names in them?

That's a great idea!! Thanks for the tip:)
What a wonderful idea! and Oliver is such a great name, too!
ok, what about Elijah (besides the bible story) and Sevanah?? Just wondering.
What a clever idea. I always give books for baby gifts but never thought about finding one with the child's name. How about the Arthur books or Mike Mulligan and his Steamshovel!
Several other books come to mind.
Tess's Tree about a special tree. When Tess's tree has to come down, Tess is very sad . . . until she finds a way to gather friends and family and celebrate her tree's remarkable life.
Max's Words encourages children to honor their passion.
Walking with Maga is about child walking with grandmother. (When Maga and I go walking, we don’t walk very fast. There is to much to see.)
Max and the Dumb Flower Picture: Despite his teacher’s entreaties that it would be perfect for Mother’s Day, Max refuses to color in the same flower picture as the rest of the class.
That is a cute idea and a memorable gift.
That's such a great idea! I am going to keep that in mind :)
Wow, Mary Ann! thanks for the suggestions! We love Mike Mulligan, but I haven't read any of the others you mentioned.
I have done that for my nieces and my daughter. The only problem is that my daughter's name is Anabel and we spell it in the Spanish form and most of the books spell her name in the English form Annnabelle. But I have found a chapter book called Annabel the Actress which is only one letter off. Close enough, I guess but it will be a long time before she will read it. The same thing for my niece whose name is Mya, which is more commonly spelled Maya. At least my other's niece's name is Alicia.
What a thoughtful idea for a gift! Rosemary Wells has published a series of books about Max,a rabbit character and Ruby also a rabbit. I love the name Max,so strong and it's one you don't hear that often. Take a look at some of these, they are a favorite with my grandchildren and the preschoolers I taught: Max's Chocolate Chicken,Goodnite Max, Max and Ruby clean Up,Bunny Money and there are more.
Enjoy! Susan at www.togethertime4famililies
Such a great idea! My friends just keep having babies, so I'll have to keep this one in mind. ;)
