another garden book for kids

May 13, 2010

Our garden is growing out of control now--in fact, the spinach looks like it is about to flower, so it might be done in a few weeks.

We did manage to enjoy a few home-grown salads this week! (yum!)

My Garden
My Garden by Kevin Henkes

Maybe you've already read this one, but we hadn't yet. (We love Kevin Henkes books.) I was happy to spy a new title on our library's shelves this week. The story is of a little girl who helps with her mother's garden.

She then describes what her garden would be like if SHE were in charge. (Think jelly-bean bushes, sea-shell plants, and patterned flowers!)

It's a fun read--especially for garden-lovers.

What are your favorite garden books? And what are you growing in your garden this year?

I keep seeing this book pop up and need to get my hands on a copy. All reviews I've read have been glowing. Your salad looks so yummy! I'm very impressed you can manage to eat salad while pregnant. I'm afraid it never agreed with me. (My youngest was formed from baked potatoes and milk shakes!)

We love "The Curious Garden." It's about a town with no greenery until a boy helps out a few struggling plants. Then the "curious" garden goes exploring.

Did you plant a seashell?

I just got this book from the library this week, because it seems such a steal for an art project :) We enjoyed Surprise Garden by Zoe Hall a lot too. We don't grow a garden this year (except existing plants, that is), because we have two major building projects. We just replaced the siding on our house, and our backyard looked like construction zone for 3 weeks. Our second project is actually changing things in our backyard, installing new path, etc - so I am hoping that next year I will have a much better garden than we do today.
