Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Hi, there! I'm Vanessa and welcome to Silly Eagle Books!

I started this blog as a way to keep track of all the books my daughter and I read together and it has turned into a book/craft blog that I hope is a resource to parents who are looking for fun, easy, and creative ideas that make learning fun.

I love books, so every post highlights one we have recently checked out from the library or that we have on our home bookshelf. I don't have time to write about bad books, so the only ones you'll find here are winners!

We like doing crafts that are inspired by the books we read, so you'll find our ideas and projects as well. I especially like re-using items from my recycle box in our crafting adventures, so I hope you'll find what we do easy and cheap to replicate on your own. These bottle cap animals are so simple and fun!

I read tons of blogs, so I am always trying out things I see and sharing them with you. This was a fun color mixing idea that I saw on Mom Tried It.

And while most of my posts are about crafts your kids can do, sometimes the crafting bug hits me and I just have to make something on my own--these bunny-inspired hair ties were a fun little 5 minute project I did last week.

I am particularly inspired by holidays, so you will find a lot of holiday themed crafts like these muffin liner valentines whenever the holidays roll around.

And somedays, (like when I am barricaded in the kitchen for 5 hours with a 2 year old refusing to potty train) I amuse myself with intricate paper crafts like these children's book inspired valentines day cards. But really, this is the exception. The child is trained now, so there is a lot less time for things like this.

Did I mention I love vintage books? I try to show a few pages of my favorite books with each review. I hope this will inspire you to run to your nearest library and/or used book store and find a copy.

I regularly feature booklists to help make your trips to the library easier and I'm always trying to think up something new to share with you. I hope you'll be back soon!

Thanks so much for stopping by! You can check out my facebook fan page, subscribe in a reader or by email!

Thanks for coming over to my site. It does seem like we have gobs in common. My three year old and I lose track of time because we read so much. It is nice to meet you!

Welcome to the party! I do love all your vintage images. You inspired me to check out our Goodwill store and I found a few treasures. I need to go on a hunt more often.

Wow, looks like a lot of great, crafty ideas. We really enjoy reading books together too, although it is a lot harder since I had my 2nd child. She is nowhere near as into it as the first was. But, I think it is catching on lately! I think I would like to try some of those crafts so I will have to come back and check it out further!

Hope you have a great time at the party this week and will stop by and say hi when you get the chance!

I was wondering what inspired all those incredible valentines. :) Oh, I am so NOT looking forward to the potty standoffs with child #2 this summer.

Stopping in from UBP10! Love your blog. Love how you incorporate crafts with your books. I've got a 2 yo little guy who is potty training. After potty training 4 girls, he is a bit tougher. The first couple weeks were bad, but this week has been really good! Hang in there!

Hi Vanessa! This is the first time I have seen your pretty face :)
You know I am a fan of your blog! And my daughter would love that card inspired by Goodnight Moon. She almost has that book memorized by now :)

I really love the idea behind your blog! I love how you use books throughout your posts. Keeps them all linked in that way! Since I'm a book reviewer, I truly appreciate the craftiness you pull out of those books as well. I am NOT crafty. :)

Enjoy this time with your little girl!!

Thanks for visiting my blog Woven by Words.
