blueberry pancakes and books for kids

April 9, 2010

I love it when Juliet brings up books we've read even when we haven't read them recently. We weren't exactly making blueberry pancakes, but blueberry muffins. As we poured the blueberries in, Juliet said excitedly, "Hey! I'm just like Sheldon!"

She was referring to one of my childhood favorites, Sheldon's Lunch by Bruce Lemerise. This is a copy that my mom recently discovered in her attic!

Sheldon's mom makes him a delicious lunch of blueberry pancakes and then leaves him alone to go shopping. He invites his friends in to share the food, but there isn't enough food to fill them all. So, they decide to make their own pancakes.

It turns into quite the adventure, but eventually, they get it right. Juliet absolutely LOVES this book. We read it over and over again. I "hid" (placed it on the bookshelf in between a bunch of other books) it for awhile and just pulled it out to write this post. As soon as she saw me carrying it out of her room, she shrieked, "My Sheldon book!!!"

We had to read it right then and there.

What are your kids' favorite books right now? Do you have any favorite cooking books to share?

I don't have a kid (yet) but one of our favorite books where we were kids was "The Hungry Thing."

I don't really have any cooking books to share, but every time I hear the phrase "blueberry pancakes" I think of Francis England's catchy children's song, "Blueberry Pancakes" off of her Fascinating Creatures album. Have you heard it?
