bunny books and easter decorations

March 25, 2010

As a child, I spent several years living in Germany with my family. My mom was able to get all some beautiful wooden Easter decorations that she always displayed in the spring. Fortunately for me, she let me have them, so now I display them in our home.

This is the first year that I let Juliet have the honor of unpacking them and placing them on the coffee table. She had so much fun getting all the bunnies out.

We also have this Easter Tree that we decorate with painted eggs, bunnies, bluebirds, and egg baskets.

I've already shared our two "Easter Bunny" books, but I looked through our shelves and came up with a list of bunny-themed books that might also be appropriate for the Easter/spring season.

The Golden Egg Book (Big Little Golden Book)

I did a double take on German Easter. It's awesome that you got to live for several years in Germany and now have those heirlooms - we have some from my husband's family as well. I am not sure that we have any clear favorites in bunny books - daughter is really so-so on cute farm animals :)

Those are beautiful!!! Do you speak any German? I'm afraid after 2 years in college, my vocabulary is limited to about 10 words.

We just discovered the Judy Dunn books last week and I am desperately trying to keep myself from buying all of them. (So far I've limited myself to two.)

Those look like some real winners! I had totally forgotten about our copy of The Little Rabbit--your post made me go and pull it out! Looks like we'll be reading it next week.

We don't really decorate for Easter, but your heirloom decorations are gorgeous! What a fun tradition to pass on to your daughter!

So glad you linked up to Read Aloud Thursday!

You know, for some reason I've always thought of the Velveteen Rabbit as a Christmas book, maybe because he gets it at Christmas.....

Those German Easter decorations are wonderful!

You have so many wonderful bunny books, too! My favorite rabbit book when I was little was The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes, by DuBose Heyward. It's about a mommy bunny who is told she could never be an Easter bunny....

Those are really great decorations. Where did you live in Germany? My family was stationed there when I was little for 5 years. Were you military?

Lucky you to have lived in Germany! I LOVE Germany and spent a couple of weeks there a few years ago. Beautiful decorations!
