how to make cupid's wings door hanger

February 5, 2010

There was a picture of Cupid in one of the Valentine's Day books we checked out from the library this week. Since we had a big mess of white feathers in our craft box just waiting to be used, I thought we would make as set of wings.

Start with a regular paper shopping bag with handles.

Then place a wing template on top and cut out the wings. Be careful to NOT cut the handles (you will need them to hang the wings from the doorknob later.)

I'm not sure why I chose yellow to make my wing pattern except that it was probably the closest thing around and I just grabbed it. I apologize for making you squint!

You will end up with something like this. I set out a bowl of white feathers and some glue, and we set to work.

Reality Check: If you only know me through my blog, you might get the idea that I have a very neat and tidy house, but that's just not the case. Most of my photos are carefully cropped so as not to reveal the mess lurking's what the view was directly to the left of the craft table!

I took the uptight approach and layered my feathers on vertically.

Juliet favored the more free-spirited method (meaning she just grabbed a big handful of feathers and smashed them on.) Both methods have their respective charms...

In the end, you get something like this!

Here's our beloved puppy modeling Juliet's pair.

And here is where they ended up: hanging on the doorknobs to each of our rooms right next to our Valentines Day boxes (AKA "Puppy's Bedroom").

My little girl would love to do this craft. So sweet.

I have really enjoyed seeing all of your Valentine's Day crafts and how books have inspired many of them.

Thank you so much for posting some titles relating to Valentine's Day. I am going to see if we can get Valentine's Day by Gail Gibbons and Valentine'sDay by Brenda Haugen.

Very cute idea! I wish I had some feathers around here. I love your "reality check"! When I saw the very first photo I thought it looked like a hotel bedroom!
