most read authors of 2009

January 5, 2010

I took a look at our list of our recommended books for 2 years olds (which is basically a list of all the books we read in this past year) and made a note of the authors of whom we have read three or more books. (I put the number of books we've read next to the names.)

Ludwig Bemelmans 4
Jan Brett 4
Margaret Wise Brown 5
Eric Carle 8
Donald Crews 4
Lynley Dodd 5
P.D. Eastman 3
Lois Ehlert 3
Don Freeman 6
Kevin Henkes 5
Ezra Jack Keats 5
Dr. Seuss 5
Carole Lexa Shaefer 3
Jane Simmons 3
Iza Trapani 4

If you are going to library and need some book suggestions, any of these authors would be good places to start. Are any of these authors favorites of yours? Do you have any other authors that are personal favorites of you and your family?

Margaret Wise Brown and Eric Carle are among my favorites too! I have some reading to do. Since it has been so cold we haven't made it to the library lately....gonnna have to change that as soon as her runny nose clears up!

You have it down to the science :) I think we also read a lot of Eric Carle this year (2 to 3). When Anna was 2 she really liked Richard Scarry who is not on your list. Now she is not as crazy about his works, but maybe because she had enough of him earlier.

I think our most read authors would include David Lucas, Tim Hopgood and Satoshi Kitamura though I don't have the stats.

Two of my favorite children's authors are Sam McBratney and Jennifer Ward. Thanks for sharing your authors.

Thanks for the suggestions. We do love Richard Scarry, but unfortunately have not read any of Lucas, Hopgood, Kitamura, McBratney, or Ward!! I must get to the library soon to see if I can find any of their books!
