best handprint art ideas for preschoolers

December 20, 2009

Remember our handprint turkeys from Thanksgiving? Juliet had so much fun with that activity, that I knew we should find some Christmas-themed handprint activities to make this month.

We started out with handprint Santas...

She had fun gluing on the eyes, hats, and cheeks afterwards.

We also made these hand AND footprint angels that I first saw on Adventures of Bear earlier this month.

Sticking her foot in paint was the best part...

These are the only three we have attempted so far, but I have found some really great sites that feature handprint art ideas including this blog completely dedicated to the subject!

Handprint and Footprint Art: All handprint and footprint art--all the time! I am a big fan of the glittery handprint keepsake ornament.

Here's another blog (below) by the same author with the best idea for a homemade gift! I wish I had found this sooner, but I think we might try to make it for the grandparents next year.

Keepsake Handprint Calendar: this site walks you through the steps in creating a work of handprint art for each month of the year. January features footprint penguins and June a handprint fish! (just like the one on the blog button above)

Here's another version of the handprint calendar from Little Giraffes. I really like her February Hearts and August Sun.

Here is a beautiful option for the December page of your calendar:
Handprint Menorah by The Ramblings and Adventures of a Stay at Home Mom
(This is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen!)

Easy Homemade Handprint Crafts:
Hearts and Handprints Framed Keepsake by Max and Ellie (I want to do this sometime soon with Juliet's hand and keep it for myself!)

Handprint Sampler by Pink and Green Mama (This is one that I hope to do when I have more kids--it's beautiful.)

Handprint Canvas Art Tradition from Becky Higgins (This is such a great idea--I wish I had thought of it before! She makes a handprint of her child on canvas on each birthday and displays them as a collection. Click through to see pictures.)

Do you know of any great handprint art sites? Have any good posts to share? Let me know so I can check it out!

Thank you so much for putting together such a great list! I could kick myself for missing the calendar. Maybe next year. Next few days will be crazy so I will say "Feliz Navidad" now. :)

What a great collection of ideas - thanks! We did handprint ornaments out of crayola model magic this week, and they are so cute. My son loves having his hand traced too.
