12 days of christmas homemade ornament ( 12 lords)

December 13, 2009

[illustration from Brian Wildsmith's 12 Days of Christmas]

We made it to the last day! I have to admit, I am kind of worn out and completely out of creative ideas. Yesterday's ladies dancing ornaments took every last drop of creativity I had left.

So today, we just did some really simple Lords-a-leaping by cutting shapes out of an old catalog.

First, I traced this shape onto tracing paper.

Then I cut out twelve of these guys.

Since the paper was so thin, I reinforced the hole by applying labels before punching the holes.

Then, I tied string to make the hangers.

Lastly, Juliet decorated the ornaments with foam stickers. (Yes, that is Noah's ark. It's all we had.) Juliet really likes the foam stickers because they are easy for her to peel and apply. She had a great time jazzing them up.

Here is our completed tree--it's pretty full now! We had a lot of fun with it, but I am glad it is finally finished.

I have really enjoyed all of your creative ornaments these past 12 days. Great ideas! I bet you and your daughter had a lot of fun making all of them. Fun!

The effort you've taken with the ornaments has been well worth it - they've been wonderful to read about and great to see on the tree! And next year when you get them out you'll definitely be smiling, I'm sure of that, even if at times this year it seemed like a mammoth project!
