If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff, Illustrated by Felicia Bond
This is another one of our favorites from the If You Give series. I had been wanting to make some sock puppets for Juliet for awhile, so I thought we might as well do the ones in the book.
A pile of single socks has been sitting on my bedroom floor for weeks now, so we dug through them and selected two good ones to make the moose and the mouse puppet. Lovely.
I had Juliet fetch her treasured button box and pick out two pairs of eyes. I glued those on as well.
Here's the mouse--we used felt for all his parts except for the button eyes and string whiskers.

Here's the moose--all his parts were cut from felt and he has button eyes.
The following day, I pulled out a huge TV box that has been sitting in our garage for awhile and let her paint the "scenery" for the puppet show with her friend Abra. The girls had a lot of fun painting, but as you can see, it's more of an abstract work of art than recognizable scenery.
Here's a final parting shot of our little puppet friends. They were really easy and took little time to make--I cut out all the pieces in about 15 minutes one evening while Juliet watched and then hot-glued them in about 2 minutes.
Activity Mom left a comment on yesterday's post saying that some of the If You Give books are on sale at Kohl's right now for $5. They also are selling stuffed animals from the books to go along with them.
