We love Don Freeman's books (Earl the Squirrel and Quiet! There's a Canary in the Library!) and recently added a new one to our home collection: Corduroy. I found it at Goodwill last week and was so excited to finally read it to Juliet. She fell in love with it immediately.
It's the story of a bear in a store who just wants a friend to love. He has an adventure in the department store one night and then gets taken home by Jill--a little girl who has been wanting to take him home for some time.
After, seeing how much Juliet loved Corduroy, I looked for more titles at the library. We picked up A Pocket for Corduroy which continues the lovable bear's adventures.
Dandelion is the story of a lion who is invited to a party. In his excitement to look fancy for the party (new hairdo, jacket, etc.) he loses who he really is. His friend doesn't recognize him and doesn't let him in the party! He gets caught in the rain and then realizes it's better to just be himself than a "stylish dandy." Juliet LOVED this one.
Norman the Doorman is the tale of a little mouse that lives in a museum. One day he enters a sculpture competition and ends up winning a prize! It's cute and fun and kept Juliet's attention.
We loved all of them! Do you have a favorite Don Freeman book? Leave a comment and let me know!
