If you are looking for a beautiful book--look no further. We've found it.
This book has NO words--the artwork is so amazing, words would only get in the way.
The basic story is of a little girl who takes a visit to the beach with her mother. She interacts with a wave (thus the title). Simple, but captivating.
Check out Suzy Lee's Website for a peek at some of the pages of this book.
As I was looking for information about this book, I came across a really great children's book blog: the well read child. She's been reviewing books for a lot longer than I have, so there are tons of reviews for you to dig through. I'll be looking there for book suggestions for sure.
Activity Idea: Tell a Story without Words
Staple some blank pages together and with your child, draw some pictures that tell a story. Ask your child to think of a simple experience she has recently had--a visit to the park, playing in the back yard, going to the zoo, etc...
Lee created her illustrations with charcoal and acrylics, but to get a similar effect, use colored pencils and water colors. Have fun blending colors together till you get it just right. And most importantly, have fun!
