more goodwill finds--golden books to add to your collection

July 3, 2009

Found these wonderful books this week:
Two Little Gardeners by Margaret Wise Brown and Edith Thacher Hurd, Illustrated by Gertrude Elliot (perfect for children interested in gardening. The illustrations are very detailed and colorful--it includes the music and lyrics for a gardening song called "Full as a Fiddle" by Margaret Wise Brown and Doroty Cadzow.

Where Do Animals Live by Kathleen N. Daly, Illustrated by Jan Pfloog (This one is great for reading to babies and younger toddlers. The pictures are big and colorful--the text is simple.)

The Christmas Tree Book by Joe Kaufman (This one is very vintage. I went back and forth about buying it because it has a page that shows presents for boys (a fire truck, ball and mitt, and a train) and presents for girls (tea set, babydoll and baby carriage) and I didn't want juliet to think that the toys listed were only for one gender or the other (fire trucks are juliet's very favorite toy right now), but I figured one book probably won't scar her for life. :) The illustrations are quite charming and juliet really likes the christmas tree on the front and back covers.
The Monster at the end of this Book by Jon Stone, Illustrated by Mike Smollin
(This is a book that I remember from my childhood. It was one of my very favorites and I have been searching high and low for a good copy. Finally found it. I hope juliet loves it as much as I did.)
