A Hippo's Tale by Lena Landstrom

"Deep in the middle of Africa, a wide dark river winds through the thick jungle."

Sounds good doesn't it? The illustrations are really good--juliet loved looking at the pictures of the hippos splashing in the river. The story is not what you might expect of hippos. It focuses on old Mrs. Hippo who lives away from the other hippos. She likes her peace and quiet and her privacy--especially when bathing (who wants a creepy monkey hanging around at bathtime?) She ends up building a bathhouse for herself only to discover it taken over by the daredevil younger hippos, who use it for a diving platform. Don't worry, she eventually finds a good place for her bath and enjoys and delicious dinner of seaweed pudding afterwards.
