Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd

"Slinky Malinki was blacker than black, a stalking and lurking adventurous cat. He had bright yellow eyes, a warbling wail and a kink at the end of his very long tail."

That's how this fun book begins...great rhymes, fun illustrations, and loaded with some hefty vocabulary words. I actually was kind of surprised that this one held juliet's attention since it has so many big words, but the rolling rhyme and engaging pictures really kept her attention. It's a great book, don't get me wrong, I was just surprised that a two year old would sit still for it.

A taste of the vocabulary: fiendish, sly, pilfer, pillage, snitch, rascally, tatty, and my favorite, rapscallion!

Slinky Malinki prowls around the night stealing things from his neighbors houses and hording them in his little cat hideaway. It's a really fun book and there are more Slinky Malinki books out there. We haven't read any yet, but we plan to for sure.

Look at the pages and listen to a reading of the story here.
