What Does Bunny See? by Linda Sue Park, Illustrated by Maggie Smith
The subtitle of this book is "a book of colors and flowers." which is part of why we liked this one so much. The illustrations are really good--the flowers really look like flowers! Juliet and I do a lot of gardening in our yard, so it was fun for her to recognize some familiar plants and also learn the names of some new ones.
A little bunny hops through a garden and finds all the colors of the rainbow in the flowers he encounters. The last page reads, "In a nest of grasses snuggled warm and tight, Bunny dreams a rainbow dream colors blossom-bright." Two bunnies are sleeping and above their heads is a rainbow of all the flowers from the book--poppies, tiger lilies, primroses, clover, morning glory, violets, and water lilies. Juliet loves pointing to the flowers and saying, "look! a flower rainbow!"
Activity Idea: Go outside to your garden or to a park and find objects from nature that represent a color from the rainbow. You can do flowers, leaves, or even rocks and sticks--use whatever you can find! Bring the objects home and lay them out in the order they appear in a rainbow. (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) Take a picture, print it out, and hang it on your fridge!
