We spent a lot of time in the H section at the library this week. As I pulled each Henke book off the shelf, I had to add it to our "take home" pile!
This book is beautifully illustrated by Henkes wife, Dronzek. (You may remember another book she illustrated, White is for Blueberry--we checked that one out a long time ago and really enjoyed it.) She paints gorgeous pictures of colorful birds of all types. We just went to the zoo yesterday--saw flamingos and fed budgies, so juliet was really into this one this morning. She pointed to the flamingo and said, "hey! he lives at the zoo!"
At the end of the book, there is an image of a little girl with her arms outstretched, pretending to be a bird flying around. Juliet started doing that the other night in the backyard, she said to me, "hey mom! look! I'm flying like a bird!" and proceeded to run around in circles for a half hour. A lovely book that inspires a child's imagination.
Here's a budgie we fed at the zoo the other day! After we got home, I asked juliet what we fed the birds at the zoo...she answered, "a stick!"
