so, I found a great website today--maybe you will find it useful. It's an organization called International Children's Digital Library.
Their mission in their own words: "The mission of the International Children’s Digital Library Foundation is to excite and inspire the world's children to become members of the global community – children who understand the value of tolerance and respect for diverse cultures, languages and ideas -- by making the best in children's literature available online."
Basically, you can click on a book and then read it online. You can look through as many books as you want for free and anonymously or you can create an account and create a virtual bookshelf of the books you read/like. It looks pretty interesting. The books are not limited to English, which is nice. You can read books in several other languages and not just the usual Spanish, German, French--they've got books in Afrikaans, Chinese, Swahili, Hebrew, etc...! It's pretty amazing.
I think this would be a great resource for teachers and librarians--they have a lot of activity idea suggestions of how to use their site.
I'm not sure how I will use this with Juliet--she doesn't use the computer yet, but when she does, I'm sure she will enjoy reading some books online. Maybe we will use it to read books on ben's laptop the next time we are stuck in an airport somewhere.
