Shoo Fly by Iza Trapani
We discovered Iza Trapani's lovely books a few months ago. Shoo Fly is our favorite. It's the traditional song, "shoo fly don't bother me, shoo fly, don't bother me, shoo fly, don't bother me, I belong to somebody." (hear the song played)
The first and last page are the words you probably already know and in the middle there are several other verses. The illustrations depict a little mouse being pestered by a fly, doing his best to get away from it. When we read/sing these books together, juliet sits entranced as I sing. (Not because of my singing ability, I assure you, but because of the wonderful illustrations and captivating lyrics.) Later on during the day, I can hear her singing or humming "shoo fly" to herself. She has also taken to calling all flies, "shoo flies."
Two other books we have read and enjoyed by the same author are Row, Row, Row Your Boat and Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone?
