the night is singing

The Night is Singing by Jacqueline Davies, Illustrated by Kyrsten Brooker

This book blew me away. We were drawn in as a house, the night sky, a cat, and even trees and wind sing lullabies to a little girl. The words are melodic and they lull you into a restful state as the book itself sings a lullaby. My daughter, Juliet, especially loves to say the opening lines with me, "When the night is gently falling, And the moon is on the rise, Close your eyes, Close your eyes...the night is singing lullabies." She also loves whispering the final words, "Shhh. Shhh. Shhh."
Beautiful. We read it again and again and neither one of us gets tired of it. Such a great bedtime book!
