The Good Bad Cat by Nancy Antle, Illustrated by John Sandford
We found this book at goodwill--where we used to go weekly for books before I thought letting juliet handle library books was a good idea. It's a Macmillan/McGraw-Hill book--I guess it is a school book from a literature series, I really don't know. What I do know is that juliet loves it and has loved it for a long time now. She loves to pull it off the shelf and read it to her stuffed animals or have me read it to her. The kitty in the story looks just like our old cat, ophelia, so maybe that is one reason why we feel so fondly towards it. But, the other reason we like it is because we get to yell, "BAD CAT!" at the mischievous cat every time he does something wrong. Juliet gets really into it and screams, "BAD CAT!" at the top of her lungs. (Don't worry, cat lovers, in the end, there is an emphatic "good cat!"so as not to hurt kitty kitty's self-esteem.)
This morning, we were playing in juliet's room when our cat, penny, walked in. I tried to pick her up and give her a good morning hug, but she squirmed and wiggled out of my arms, scratching me in the eye in the process. I screamed in pain and swatted her with my hand as she ran away. In my half-blinded state, I couldn't help but laugh as I heard juliet giggle delightedly and yell out, "BAD CAT!!!"
